For the third consecutive year, GDCI’s Envirothon team will be traveling to Fleming College in Lindsay for the provincial championships May 29-June 1. The annual program trains students to become experts in areas including soils, aquatics, wildlife and forestry and special topic, invasive species.
For the competition, the team created a presentation based on a scenario and completed hands-on field tests at the Windmill Lake Ecopark near Bayfield on May 5. Students have met monthly since the fall to prepare for the competition. Their teamwork, critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving skills helped them narrowly defeat 11 other teams from the two counties.
