Recently at G.D.C.I we had a emergency preparedness program that informed students on how to be safe prepare for an emergency, as well as all the different jobs and agency’s that would be apart of responding to an emergency or disaster. Thirteen agencies such as: Canadian Red Cross, OPP, EMS (Emergency Medical Services), Health Unit, SPCA and many more have donated there time to help educate students on emergency preparedness by doing fun but informative activities that included doing a photo scavenger hunt exercise where the students had 60-90 minutes to obtain solid knowledge to what each responding agency does during an emergency or disaster.
The other activity was where each of the students that participated received a job of someone who worked in one of the thirteen agencies or would take part in responding or helping with an emergency. Then the students were given a scenario in which a disaster had taken place. The students would then meet with the people who would respond to this disaster. After the students would talk about what there agency would need and what the agency would do to help with the disaster. It was a very informative night that was very interesting and I encourage all the students who didn’t take part in this event to try and do so next year.
